VIDI vs ZTE

Five interesting facts ahead of Sunday's game

It's been more than 14 years since Zalaegerszeg last won at the Sósto, and the 24th September date has also brought good results for our team in the past.

In the 7th round of the OTP Bank Liga, our team will play against Zalaegerszeg at the Sóstói Stadium on Sunday at 15:00. To get you in the mood for the match, we have collected five interesting facts.

1. Positive overall record

Our team is preparing for its 91st first division match against Zalaegerszeg, the all-time record of the two teams shows a significant superiority for Fehervar: 41 Vidi wins, 25 draws and 24 ZTE victories. The goal difference is 150:101 in favour of Vidi, with an average of 2.8 goals scored in past matches between the two teams, the most goals scored coming in the 4-4 draw in 1994.

In December 1972, we played our first NB I league match against our Sunday opponents, a 0-0 draw in Zalaegerszeg. Four months later, Gábor Fejes scored in the first home match to give our team a 1-0 win. Our last NB I match against ZTE was a home game in May 2023, where we won 3-0 with a double from Kenan Kodro and a goal from Lirim Kastrati.

2. Our biggest win

On the 19th May 2004, our team led by János Csank recorded the biggest victory against the Zala-based team, with a double from Tibor Szabó and goals from Zsolt Dvéri, Tomás Medved and Gabriel Vochin in a 5-0 win.

We can also be proud of two four-goal victories against ZTE in the past, winning 5-1 in 1983 and 4-0 in 1987.

3. Familiar faces on both sides

Three players from our team, Dániel Kovács, Nikola Serafimov and Bence Gergényi played for our opponent on Sunday, Serafimov and Gergényi arrived directly from the Zala club to Fehérvár, the former in the summer of 2022, the latter in the summer transfer period just ended.

Of our opponents' players, Norbert Szendrei transferred from Fehérvár to ZTE at the beginning of 2022, while István Sallói, their sporting director, also featured for Vidi in the same role and as a player, and Géza Vlaszák, their goalkeeper, was also a player of our team.

4. Long unbeaten home run

We have remained unbeaten in 15 of the last 17 NB I championship matches against Zalaegerszeg, the last time our team lost a home game was 2-1 against ZTE almost fourteen years ago, on 28th August 2009. The last 17 meetings have resulted in 9 Vidi wins, 6 draws and 2 defeats.

5. September 24th.

In the last twenty years, we have played three NB I league matches on the day of the meeting on Sunday, all three of them were won by Vidi. Most recently, in 2016, we won 2-1 at home to Budapest Honvéd with goals from Roland Juhász and Krisztián Géresi, in 2010 we beat Szombathelyi Haladas 3-1 in the Sóstó with a double from André Alves and a goal from András Gosztonyi, while in 2005 we won 2-1 away to REAC with two goals from Illés Sitku.

We also played a memorable European game recently on the 24th September, in the third round of the 2020 Europa League qualifiers against Stade de Reims, where after a goalless draw, Gábor Márton's Vidi qualified on penalties (due to the virus epidemic, the international qualifiers were delayed that summer and qualification was decided over one match).
